“American Mother” written by National Book Award-winner Column McCann with Diane Foley, is the heart-rending story of a mother who, in the course of confronting her son’s killer, gets to the elemental heart of violence and forgiveness. Diane is the mother of freelance journalist Jim Foley, who was captured and killed by Isis in 2014. Seven years later, Diane gets the chance to spend three days with Jim’s murderer in a courthouse in Virginia, inspiring her to tell her unforgettable story.
Diane will speak about the process of working with McCann to create “American Mother” on Thursday, June 13 at 6pm in the Wolfeboro Library’s Bradley Room. Copies of the book will be available to purchase for $75. which includes a donation to the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation. Participants are also welcome to bring their own copies of the book, purchased elsewhere, to be signed.
Diane Foley created the foundation to advocate for freedom for innocent Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad and for journalist safety. She has been a tireless hostage, wrongful detainee and family advocate within the U.S. hostage enterprise, Congress, and every presidential administration since 2014. She has raised awareness of international hostage taking and wrongful detention using the award-winning documentary, “Jim, the James Foley Story,” opinion pieces in the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today and countless media interviews.
