Dr. Warren Weinstein

Dr. Warren Weinstein was a government contractor and consultant for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He was born in Brooklyn, NY, was married for 43 years and raised two daughters. Warren dedicated his life to learning from and improving the lives of people around the world. He invested in future generations as a college professor teaching international development and political science. He served as a development specialist in Africa and South Asia, focusing on creating economic opportunity and small businesses. He was kidnapped by al-Qaeda militants on August 15, 2011, from his residence in Pakistan while working on a USAID project. On January 14, 2015, he was killed in a U.S. counterterrorism strike. Warren worked tirelessly in the field of human rights and was extremely proud of the work he had accomplished during his time in Pakistan.
