Foley Foundation Statement on the Release of George Glezmann from Captivity

WASHINGTON, DC – Foley Foundation President and Founder Diane Foley said today, “We congratulate the Trump administration for securing the release of George Glezmann, wrongfully detained in Afghanistan by the Taliban for over two years. This administration has returned over a dozen Americans held captive abroad in the last 60 days. We are grateful to the government of Qatar for their skilled diplomacy in facilitating this release.”

Glezmann’s spouse, Aleksandra Glezmann, said “I can’t wait to see George and help him on his road to recovery as we rebuild our lives. We are forever grateful to President Trump for bringing George home…The skill and dedication demonstrated by Secretary Rubio, Mr. Waltz, and Mr. Boehler has been refreshing. It is clear to us that their dedication to the American people is unwavering.”

Attorney for the family and advisor to the Foley Foundation, Dennis Fitzpatrick, said “George’s team is grateful that he is finally coming home after 836 days in Taliban custody…[envoy] Adam Boehler worked tirelessly since day one of the Trump administration to bring George home and his hard work has paid off. Secretary Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz understand how to operate on the world stage in order to advance the interests of the American people. George’s release was achieved based on the unique skill and dedication of these people.”

Additional Americans remain unjustly imprisoned in Afghanistan, including Mahmood Habibi, who has been wrongfully detained since 2022 (953 days). The Taliban have failed to acknowledge that they are holding Habibi, despite considerable evidence the family and the U.S. government have to the contrary. Today the U.S. government stated that six other Americans, including the remains of one, continue to be held. The Foley Foundation looks forward to sustained and accelerated efforts by the Trump administration to ensure all Americans held unjustly captive in Afghanistan and around the world are reunited with their families.
