WASHINGTON, DC – Diane Foley, President and Founder of the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, issued the following statement concerning the release of five Americans who had been held by Iran in exchange for five Iranians who had been held in the U.S. and the unlocking of $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets.
“The Foley Foundation welcomes the news that five Americans who were unjustly detained in Iran will be reunited with their families,” Foley said. “Hostage and detainee negotiations are some of the hardest challenges in government, and these decisions are never easy, but bringing our people home is always the morally courageous choice.
“We are grateful for the Biden administration’s work to bring these Americans home and for longstanding bipartisan support for hostage and detainee issues. We will not rest until every American being held hostage or unjustly detained abroad is safely home.”
