Over the last decade, the Foundation has supported dozens of families through the horror of hostage-taking, successfully secured reforms to U.S. hostage policies that led to the creation of a new government structurally focused on resolving cases involving hostage-taking and wrongful detention of U.S. nationals. Since those reforms were implemented, over 120 Americans have been reunited with their families. Unfortunately, more must be done to free nearly 50 Americans held captive abroad today. The Foley Foundation has also created a journalist safety education curriculum that is in use by over a dozen universities around the world to mitigate potential harm to journalists exercising the rights of a free press.
