Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, a dual US-Israeli citizen, was attending a music festival on October 7, 2023 when Hamas launched a terrorist attack that killed more than 1,200 people. During the attack, Hersh and others sought shelter in a bunker. When Hamas threw grenades into the bunker, Hersh ran to throw the grenades out, losing an arm in the process. Hersh was taken hostage by Hamas, along with about 250 others. Hersh was executed by Hamas, and his remains recovered on August 31, 2024.
