U.S. citizen and ballerina Ksenia Karelina has been detained by the Russian government since January 27, 2024, following a visit to see her grandparents.
On April 10, 2025, she was released in a prisoner swap in Abu Dhabi between Russia and the United States with mediation from the United Arab Emirates.
