THE CERVANTES GROUP SPONSORS 11TH ANNUAL JAMES W. FOLEY FREEDOM RUN

WASHINGTON — The James W. Foley Legacy Foundation announced today that The Cervantes Group will sponsor the 2025 James W. Foley Freedom Run at the $7,500 Freedom Protector level. This generous contribution advances the Foley Foundation’s mission to advocate for American hostages and wrongful detainees held abroad and to promote safety and resilience for journalists working in high-risk environments.

Timothy B. Mullen, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of The Cervantes Group, said:

“Foley is family. At TEAM CERVANTES, we are one big family as well. We believe that supporting important causes such as the Foley Foundation is what sets us apart. We trust in Foley and are humbled by all the impressive services that give us courage on a daily basis.”

Now in its 11th year, the Foley Freedom Run honors the life and legacy of conflict journalist James W. Foley and others who have died or been killed defending First Amendment freedoms. The annual event draws thousands of runners and walkers from across the globe to stand in solidarity with courageous journalists and unjustly detained Americans.

Foley Foundation Executive Director Benjamin Gray said:

“We’re deeply grateful to The Cervantes Group, one of our most loyal supporters of the Run and our mission. The commitment of our sponsors and donors saves lives by helping us reunite American hostages with their families and protect journalists who risk everything to bring us the truth.”

This year’s Foley Freedom Run will take place on Saturday, October 18 in Rochester, NH, and on Saturday, October 25 in Washington, DC. Runners and walkers can also take part virtually from anywhere in the world. All participants receive official Foley Freedom Run T-shirts and may create personalized fundraising pages to support the Foundation’s work.

The Rochester event features professional chip timing, a Kids Fun Run, a Runners Expo, and a festive post-race celebration with live music and a beer garden. The Washington, DC run is also professionally timed and follows a scenic route along the Anacostia River in historic Anacostia Park.

Proceeds from the Foley Freedom Run directly support the Foundation’s hostage advocacy and journalist safety education initiatives.

ABOUT THE JAMES W. FOLEY LEGACY FOUNDATION

Conflict journalist James W. Foley was taken hostage by ISIS terrorists in 2012 while covering the Syrian civil war. His captors tortured and ultimately brutally murdered him in 2014. The James W. Foley Legacy Foundation was established within weeks of his death. Inspired by James Foley’s moral courage, the Foundation advocates for American hostages and wrongful detainees held abroad and promotes journalist safety.
